The mountain sits above the towns of Buea (southeastern slope) and Limbe (southern foot) and is managed within Mount Cameroon National Park; it is used for recreational walking/hiking, summit climbs and hosts the annual Mount Cameroon Race of Hope (~38 km Buea–summit–return).
